The maestro, born in 1941 in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district as Jagmohan Singh obtained an arts degree from DAV College in Jallandhar. He began his professional career in 1961 by undertaking singing and composing assignments at All India Radio's (AIR) Jallandhar. The Padma Bhushan recipient, whose soul-stirring voice was behind evergreen songs like Hazaron Khwaishe Aisi, Ye Kaghaz Ki Kashti and Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar, Hothon se chhulo tum etc, passed away in Mumbai on October 10, 2011.

 

Google also dedicated its search homepage to his 72nd birth anniversary. Incidentally, the legendary singer recently topped a list of popular singers of the ghazal genre. According to Google Search Trends, Jagjit Singh was people's first choice - both in India and abroad, when it came to songs, lyrics and mp3s of ghazals.
